As we age we typically become weaker, more vulnerable and increasingly dependent on the stronger members of our community for our daily survival, every last Friday of the month remain indelible, in the lives of the older members of MUSHIN local government in Lagos state. The local government plays host to one of the biggest assembly of older people, in the history of Lagos state. In the cause of finding solution to numerous problems, confronting them in terms of health and wellbeing, shabi old people’s charity foundation has provided them a platform, for them to come together for a common cause as our main priority is to have a positive impact in their health and overall wellbeing. Since ageing is a natural phenomenon, it occurrence shouldn’t deprive anybody of enjoying the basic pleasures of life and the benefit derived from being part of the community. Shabi old people’s charity foundation is a non-governmental organization, with the basic aim of supporting health and wellbeing of old aged persons, we represent the need of over 10 million older Nigerians, with the purpose of making positive impact in their lives, our major programs for the older people include;

 – Health and wellbeing
 – Social care and support
 – Financial empowerment
 – Meals for the elderly
 – Medical consultancy

Shabi old people’s charity foundation has assisted over 700 old people and family members across Lagos state, through our community based support programs, by providing monthly free medical services for the old people to make them very healthy. Our programs make them have access to our medical team, in various health issues, we passionately support the elderly living in both rural and urban areas, to help them restrain from begging and also help them have access to food and drugs. Our financial empowerment scheme has assisted over 150 beneficiaries, with a monthly financial empowerment to petty traders every month. This is our little way of helping them grow their businesses and a monthly upkeep allowance to 15 beneficiaries living with disabilities, with over 1500 registered older adult members in Lagos state and it’s environs, we are creating a big platform for the old people to be appreciated and cared for in our society, and also make a big difference to fight laziness and isolation. Our foundation has helped to achieve fighting ageism, that has deprived them their rights in our present world, this platform also gives them the opportunity to share their experiences and also bring them out of their shell, making them to have more hope for the future, this platform also gives the youth and children orientation, on the need to take care of the old members of their families, we also provide good quality of health care services for the elderly, it is fair to agree this is a challenge, and would need a joint approach and strategy.
